A burglary suspect was arrested on Sunday after police were able to literally track his footsteps after a break-in at a Cedar Rapids bike shop.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department says the burglary happened at Hall Bicycle Company at 419 2nd Avenue SE around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Police say 54-year-old Eddy Burgin used a rock to break out the front glass window, entered the store through the window and stole a Trek fat tire bike valued at $1,650. Damage to the window is estimated at $2,000.
Police followed footprints and the distinct tire pattern of the stolen bike to Burgin's residence, where Burgin was arrested and the bike was recovered. He is charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree theft, and second-degree criminal mischief.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department made light of the story in a Facebook post, saying maybe they will miss not having snow every morning.
